“It’s good for the planet and public finances,” assures Ludovic Hocbon, president of the Pays de Fontenay-Vendée.

Thursday, November 14, the elected representatives of the community of communes of the country of Fontenay-Vendée, Christophe Pécate, sub-prefect of Vendée and Patrick Villalon, vice-president of Sydev, inaugurated the new wood boiler for the Océanide swimming pool in Fontenay-le-Comte.

A project costing almost €400,000

“The Océanide aquatic center being very energy-intensive in gasthe Community of Communes which built and manages this structuring equipment since 2003, was looking for an economically reasonable alternative in the face of a context of regular increase in energy costs since the Covid crisis in 2020,” explains the country of Fontenay-Vendée in a press release.

It was in 2021 that the community of municipalities turned to the option of a wood boiler.

The total cost of the project amounts to 386 484,94 €.

An ecological and financial interest

The objective of the country of Fontenay-Vendée is to “decarbonize our territory, it is a priority”, maintains Ludovic Hocbon.

This concept of wood boiler could, in the long term, be developed in community buildings.

The wood which powers this new boiler comes only from forests in the north of Deux-Sèvres for an annual volume of 196 tonnes.

At a price of €203.99 per tonne, the wood which fuels the boiler represents a price of €40,000 per year.

This corresponds to a saving of €25,000 per year for the region of Fontenay-Vendée.
