On July 10, 2020, André Thien Ah Koon was re-elected president of the Communauté d’agglomération du Sud (Casud). But on May 23, 2024, the elected official, now former mayor of Le Tampon, was sentenced by the Court of Appeal of La Réunion to five years of ineligibility, thereby losing all his mandates. After handing over to his son to manage the commune of Le Tampon, the time has now come for a renewal of governance for the Casud. The one also known as “TAK” was twice elected president of Casud in 2014 and 2020.

The community which includes five municipalities: Entre-Deux, Saint-Philippe, Saint-Joseph and Le Tampon.

To succeed André Thien Ah Koon, among the ranks of his supporters, the name of Jacques Hoarau stands out, former first deputy of the elected official and newly appointed first deputy of Patrice Thien Ah Koon, elected this Monday, June 24, 2024 , mayor of Tampon.

Are therefore present: Patrice Thien Ah Koon, Olivier Rivière and Bachil Valy. The big absentee is Patrick Lebreton.

Only candidate: Jacquet Hoarau.

– Nothing is going well at Casud anymore –

On July 10, 2020, André Thien Ah Koon was elected head of Casud. A decision which had also been validated by the Council of State following an electoral dispute.

But this July 10, it was not by an absolute majority that the former mayor of Le Tampon was elected but rather for the benefit of age, ahead of Patrick Lebreton.

An election which has since turned into a duel between the two mayors.

In May 2022, Patrick Lebreton contacted the prefect of La Réunion, who accused TAK of mismanagement at the head of Casud and of single-handedly blocking the large inter-municipal project in the south, which consists of a Casud-Civis merger.

The mayor of Saint-Joseph who had threatened to leave the southern interco if it remains as it is.

Since 2020, the city of Le Tampon has said it is opposed to the merger. Patrick Lebreton accuses his Tampon counterpart of blocking the situation alone, even though the plan had been adopted, despite his vote against.
