The Mohammed V University (UM5) in Rabat welcomed a university delegation from Al-Quds and Gaza at the beginning of the week with the aim of exploring different cooperation strategies to facilitate the gradual return of education.

Several speakers participated in this meeting which was held this Monday, June 24, 2024 in Rabat, including Imad Abu Kishk, president of Al-Quds University, Khalil Abu Foul, chairman of the Board of Trustees of Al-Azhar University in Gaza, Omar Milad, president of Al-Azhar University, and Safaa Nasser Eddine, Secretary General of Presidential Affairs at Al-Quds University, Ashraf Al-Awar, Minister of Al-Quds Affairs of the Palestinian Government, Jamal Choubki, Palestinian Ambassador to the Kingdom of Morocco, and Mohamed Salem Cherkaoui, director responsible for running the Bayt Mal Al Quds Acharif Agency.

Among those present were also members of the Palestinian delegation, representatives of Al-Quds and Gaza, currently visiting Morocco until June 28, as well as administrators and deans of the faculties of UM5.

For his part, the Professor Farid El Bacha, president of UM5, expressed his deep concern about the paralysis that has hit the education sector in Gaza, as well as other vital sectors, since the events of October 7. He commended Al-Azhar University for its innovative proposals to overcome this crisis and enable students to resume their studies in their faculties and lecture halls.

Furthermore, El Bacha reaffirmed the university’s commitment to supporting the efforts made by the Kingdom of Morocco, under the wise leadership of King Mohammed VI, to provide aid and comfort to Palestinians in Gaza and other equally affected regions. He took this opportunity to propose the creation of an annual Palestinian University Forum, intended to be a permanent framework for cooperation and partnership.

In particular, he paid tribute to Al-Quds University for its valuable contribution to strengthening the role of educated and promising Palestinian elites in defending the legitimate rights of Palestinians. He stressed the importance of disseminating knowledge that allows new generations to envisage the future with ambition and hope.

For its part, The Palestinian delegation expressed its deep gratitude for this notable outpouring of solidarity from the Kingdom of Morocco, reflecting concrete and genuine mutual assistance towards the Palestinian people. Emphasis was placed on the constant efforts of the Sovereign, and his firm messages in favor of the protection of Muslim and Christian holy places in Al-Quds.
