The mayors will meet on Tuesday, November 19 at a congress in Paris, renamed by some this year “the congress of anger”. In question? The contribution of 5 billion euros requested from them by the government. In Bègles, in Gironde, the mayor will have to find 800,000 euros in savings.
The mayor of Bègles (Gironde) displays his anger on social networks, but also in front of his town hall with a banner: “We refuse the degradation of public services.” He refuses to accept the budgetary effort requested of him by the State, nearly 800,000 euros in 2025, out of a budget of 30 million euros. He has just launched a petition among residents.
“We are really not happy, and we are going to let the Prime Minister know it during the congress of mayors,” declared the councilor. Among the different savings scenarios considered, the municipality's schools could be targeted.
During lunch, for example, the leaders eat with the children, in order to educate them about good nutrition. The city could backtrack on the project. The payroll represents nearly 60% of the operating budget of Bègles. The option of reducing municipal staff is therefore not excluded.
