Paris photo
While he sets Man Ray's restored films to music, Jim Jarmusch also orchestrates his own journey of images at Paris Photo (back at the Grand Palais). An almost naked woman captured by John Kayser (1922-2007), a train car in New Orleans – an image by Robert Frank (1924-2019) –, portraits of transvestites by Lisetta Carmi in Genoa in the mid-1960s … The dreamlike meets the ordinary in a wandering that is certainly cinematic. Photo Saint-Germain
Galleries, museums, bookstores, art schools in Saint-Germain-des-Prés offer a rich photographic journey. The opportunity, for example, to discover the candid portraits of old New York ladies by Catherine DeLattre (Abraham & Wolff gallery), the behind-the-scenes of museums revealed by the jubilant images of Nicolas Krief (Galerie Gallimard), or even the wanderings in black and white of the Sartre-Beauvoir couple in Lithuania (Hotel La Louisiana). The embarrassment of – the right – choice. Until November 23. photosaintgermain.com
An immersive and disconcerting installation evoking the storm, the stormy sea… A sensation from elsewhere
Photo Days
In addition to bringing together galleries and museums, Photo Days organizes exhibitions in places off the beaten track. The proof with the very subtle Ariane Michel, who lives in the bar of the legendary Arlequin cinema. Delving into silent films by Keaton and Eisenstein, the artist extracted photograms, with which she creates dreamlike videos, photo montages and five large curtains. An immersive and disconcerting installation with a background of sound effects evoking storms, melting ice, stormy seas… A sensation from elsewhere. Until November 30. photodays.paris
