XV of France: new setbacks for the two players accused of aggravated rape

The future ofHugo Auradou and Oscar Jegou remains uncertain. At the beginning of July, the two players of the French XV were charged with aggravated rape in Argentina. Facts which allegedly occurred on the night of July 6 to 7, in a hotel room in Mendoza.

Since the start of this affair, rugby players have continued to
proclaim their innocence. If they admitted a consensual sexual relationship with the alleged victim, they denied any form of violence during this act. On October 4, the prosecution then requested dropping the charges. He notably considered that “the initial accusation (had) lost its force” throughout the investigation.

The Argentine courts have not yet made their decision

Monday November 25, the dismissal hearing in the Hugo Auradou and Oscar Jegou affair took place in Argentina. According to
The Parisianthe debates began at 9:30 a.m. (local time). For three hours, the prosecution presented its arguments. No decision
was not, however, taken by the courts.

The hearing will therefore continue on Tuesday, November 26 and could even extend until the following day. Indeed, the Argentine court would like to continue to listen to the arguments of both parties before deciding. It is therefore a new setback for athletes. The day before, their lawyer, Rafael Cuneo Libarona, had nevertheless indicated that he was “very optimistic” for the rest of the case.

Hugo Auradou and Oscar Jegou could be exonerated

If the Argentine justice system has not yet rendered its decision, Hugo Auradou and Oscar Jegou could soon be cleared of all suspicion.
The Parisian thus specifies that a dismissal of the case would close “definitively and irrevocably” the legal process. In the context of a total dropping of charges, it would mean “dismissal of the case”. That's to say, absolute exoneration of the accused.

Despite this possibility, the matter would not be over. The complainant would effectively have three days to
to appeal of this decision. A probable hypothesis according to his lawyer, Natacha Romano. To be continued.
