From October 14, compensation for the benefit compensating a loss of income for victims of criminal acts (IVAC) will be limited to a period of 3 years. The old law did not provide for any time limit.

This reform was adopted by the government of Quebec in 2021. It also has the function of canceling the list of admissible offenses so that from now on all offenses against the person listed in the Criminal Code are covered.

The communications and public relations coordinator at the Network of Assistance Centers for Victims of Criminal Acts (CAVAC) of Outaouais, Marie-Christine Villeneuve, shares the concerns of victims of criminal acts on this subject:

However, the coordinator qualifies her remarks by explaining that this reform will not necessarily suspend all assistance to victims:

The organization hopes that requests for assistance will be processed on a case-by-case basis by Quebec.
