In July 1974, Icarus Club Déodatien was born, becoming the one of the first free flight clubs in France . Fifty years later, in July 2024, this emblematic club is celebrating half a century of history and passion for paragliding and hang gliding. To mark this anniversary, a series of events and challenges are organized throughout the year in the magnificent Déodatie basin, offering a unique opportunity to discover and practice free flight.

The celebration program begins with the X-Déodatienne, a walking and flying challenge around the sites of Saint-Dié-des-Vosges, open from January 1 to August 31. Meanwhile, the Icare Cross Trophy, a distance flying challenge from a local venue, will be held from March 1 to August 31. The Treuil days in Remomeix, the dates of which will be defined soon, will allow the general public to try out two-seater flights. In September, Icarnaval will bring a festive touch with disguised flights during the Coupe Icare in Saint-Hilaire du Touvet.

The culmination of the festivities will be the official 50th anniversary day, on Saturday June 29. At the foot of the Freedom Tower a presentation of free flight to the general public will be followed by an official ceremony and a festive evening.

Friday September 6 the Icare du Cinéma at the Pierre Noël Museum will offer the screening of films selected from the International Aerial Film Festival, accompanied by the presentation of the X-Déodatienne prizes and the Icare Cross Trophy.
