Little known to the general public, sports shooting has nevertheless been in the Olympic Games since Athens 1896. Absent in 1904 and 1928, this discipline is an essential part of the Olympics.

How does the competition take place?

For all categories, there are qualifications which determine the 8 finalists. During this final, the athletes must shoot 20 times but from the 8th shot, the last one is eliminated every two shots.

How to win?

The goal of the game is simple: shoot as close to the center as possible on a target.

What are the categories?

For men and women, the tests are the same:
– compressed air gun at 10m
– rapid fire pistol at 25m
– compressed air rifle at 10m
– 3-position rifle at 50m
– shotgun – Olympic pit
– shotgun – skeet

In addition, there are three mixed events:
– compressed air gun at 10m
– compressed air rifle at 10m
– shotgun – skeet

When will the tests take place in Paris?

Sport shooting is one of the rare sports to take place elsewhere than in Paris. The events take place in Déols, near Châteauroux in Indre, at the National Sports Shooting Center, from July 27 to August 5.

Indeed, in history, sports shooting offers us a good number of medals. France received 30 medals including 9 gold, 12 silver and 9 bronze.
