Production of the Honda Civic hybrid launched in Ontario

Production of the 2025 Civic Hybrid began this week at Honda’s Alliston, Ontario plant. Everything was made possible thanks to investments of 1.4 billion which were announced at the beginning of 2022 in order to prepare the factory for the manufacture of this variant of the model.

In fact, in plant number 2, it was the CR-V hybrid that benefited first, which has been assembled there since the end of 2022. The Civic’s turn has now come to the plant number 1. And as was the case for the CR-V, production of the regular Civic continued during the development work aimed at allowing the assembly of the hybrid version.

Honda Canada vice-president Bobbi Curran said this step is part of the company’s electrification strategy which now concerns all employees at the Alliston plant, or 4,200 workers.

“Hybrid generation is an important step toward an electric future, and we are proud to continue sharing our success as we grow with the Alliston community.” »

For his part, Jean Marc Leclerc, President and CEO of Honda Canada, rightly mentioned that Honda Canada “is a proud example of Canadian innovation that strategically invests in technology and its associates on the path to electrification. Companies like Honda face great complexity and challenges as they evolve and transition their businesses to an electrified future. We’ve accomplished a lot so far, but we still have more to do to make electric and fuel cell vehicles represent 100% of our sales in North America by 2040.”

The Alliston site, responsible for the assembly of more than six million Civics since 1986, is now the primary plant for production of the Civic Hybrid and CR-V in North America.
