A motorcyclist is in critical condition after being hit by a motorist in the Ahuntsic-Cartierville district. Medical authorities fear for his life.

Patrollers from the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) went to the intersection of Avenue Papineau and Rue Prieur after several calls received at 911.

At the scene, officers found a 56-year-old man lying on the ground and unconscious.

He was traveling eastbound on rue Prieur when he was hit by a 24-year-old motorist who was heading southbound on avenue Papineau. The motorist escaped unhurt.

The police arrived on scene before the paramedics to assist the motorcyclist.

A large perimeter was established to protect the scene of the collision so that investigators could shed light on this event.

THE SPVM asks the population to avoid the area.
