Legislative elections 2024 in Dordogne: around ten Périgord caregivers call to block the far right

Around ten Périgord caregivers are taking action against the far right. One week before the first round of the legislative elections, doctors, nurses, dentists, from Périgueux, Ribérac, Saint-Médard-de-Mussidan, or even Champcevinelhave signed a column published Saturday on the Mediapart blog.

3,600 healthcare professionals from all over France write that the arrival of the extreme right to power “would worsen the state of a healthcare and medico-social support system that has been weakened for many years already”. These caregivers call to vote for the New Popular Front : “Voting for left-wing parties means choosing to preserve universal access to quality care for all, and thus acting for stability and social peace in our country”.

“It would put everyone’s health at risk”

The signatories fear that the far right will apply “a xenophobic or discriminatory policy leading to the suppression of social and health rights based on criteria of origin or nationality”what “would endanger public health and therefore potentially the health of all”.

Caregivers also denounce the anti-immigration programs of the National Rally and its allies. They are worried that health professionals from immigrant backgrounds can no longer practice in France. “Depriving yourself of these valuable skills and contributions, in essential and difficult professions, would only worsen the dysfunctions and shortcomings of our health and medico-social system”affirm the signatories of the platform.
