An 18-year-old young man stabbed to death in the street, a second seriously injured

Two young men aged 18 were seriously injured with knives, during the night from Saturday to Sunday, in Niort (Deux-Sèvres), in a violent brawl involving several people. One of the victims died of his injuries at the hospital shortly after his arrival, said the Niort prosecutor’s office, confirming information from The New Republic.

“This Sunday at 3:25 a.m., firefighters intervened on Allée Jacques-Coulais in Niort to help two men injured with knives a few minutes earlier”indicates the public prosecutor of Niort, Julien Wattebled, in a press release. “Given the seriousness of the injuries, the two men were transported to the Niort hospital center as an absolute emergency. The death of one of the two, a young man of 18, was noted at 4:30 a.m.”. The magistrate also specifies that
“the other victim, also aged 18, underwent emergency surgery with a life-threatening prognosis. His condition remains serious but stabilized at this stage”.

An investigation was opened and entrusted to the Interdepartmental Judicial Police Service (SIPJ), the Organized and Specialized Crime Division (DCOS) of Poitiers and the Niort police station. According to initial information, one of the protagonists in this violent brawl used a knife to stab the two victims.

“All means are being implemented”

Investigators continued their findings until Sunday morning. “Investigations are continuing to precisely locate the crime scene. All means are being used to identify the perpetrator(s) of these facts and to understand their origin”underlined Julien Wattebled, who asks anyone with information that could help investigators to call 17 or 05.49.28.72.00.
