The vigilance Orange storms and floods of Thursday June 21, 2024 were announced by Météo France on Wednesday June 19, 2024 for Sarthe.

At the beginning of the evening, violent thunderstorms fell on the south-east of Sarthe.

The equivalent of a month of rain fell in certain areas, notably in Théligny but also in Courdemanchenear Grand-Lucé where the RD 64 was heavily damaged.

It is closed to traffic because it threatens to sag at a place.

Of the torrential rain fell around 10:15 p.m. Thursday evening, flooding the fields on the hillsides. The water then spilled onto the road near Chemin du Guéridé, in the area between the town of Courdemanche and Brives (on the RD 304).

Houses were partially flooded and embankments collapsed.

Already violent storms during the Pentecost weekend, notably those of Sunday May 19, 2024, had caused damage to the roads in Courdemanche, in the town.

Departmental roads cut

Friday June 21, 2024 in the morning, traffic was disrupted on the secondary network. Several departmental roads were closed.

These storms mainly affected the south-east of the department, in the Château-du-Loir sector.

The RD 304 was blocked, in the town of Lhomme, due to a landslide.

At 4 p.m., other roads were still flooded: the RD 30 in Vaas, the RD 323 in Arnage, the RD 251 in Roëzé-sur-Sarthe and the RD 71 (partially) in Lavernat.

This Saturday, June 22, 2024, the situation is improving.

Over the entire stormy episode, Sarthe firefighters reported that they intervened 17 times for flooding in the department.
