Switzerland pays 15 million for the poorest populations

The poorest populations in developing countries will receive support from Switzerland to face climate change. The Minister of Foreign Affairs decided on Friday to pay 15 million francs to the Agreement Adaptation Fund.

For the period 2025-2028, the support amounts to a total of 53 million francs, indicates the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs. This contribution comes within the framework of the international cooperation strategy. It is financed by available budgets and meets Switzerland’s international commitments in terms of financing the climate objectives of the Paris Agreement.

The Fund helps disadvantaged population groups facing melting glaciers, rising sea levels, floods and droughts. Resilience to the consequences of climate change must be strengthened.

Around four million people have benefited from the Fund. This notably enabled the establishment of 258 early warning systems against extreme weather phenomena.
