Dénomination de l’Auditorium Eric Sidha-Chetty

The emotion was palpable this Friday, June 21 in Saint-Leu… on the backstage of the Saint-Leu Auditorium, the family of Eric Sidha-Chetty, his artist friends, the Mayor, Bruno Domen, the officials are preparing to reveal the name of the Auditorium.

The speeches follow one another to talk about Eric, this artist, this beautiful soul who knew how to inspire generations of artists. From his beginnings at Château Morange, through his exceptional musical creations and his invaluable contribution to artistic education in the districts of Saint-Leu: Eric Sidha-Chetty left his mark on his era.

At the end of his life, he told his loved ones “in a few years, they will have forgotten me”… but no, the memory of this outstanding musician, composer, poet, will not have been forgotten. On the contrary, his name and his photo revealed in this auditorium will live forever, remembering how much he worked for culture, for Saint-Leu, for Reunion.

After the unveiling of the commemorative plaques, the family, the ACCOI, an association he created in 2010, the artists who worked with him organized a tribute. The public was able to see extracts from his “Séga 2000” creations or even the musical work imagined for the 150th anniversary of the abolition of slavery. This touching tribute ended in music with his former students, the artists present, and his brothers René and Patrick Sidha on guitar.

The Mayor, Bruno Domen expressed the wish that “this auditorium becomes a place of creation and sharing like what Eric Sidha-Chetty has always defended and promoted”. The cultural facility will host a conference each month related to heritage, it will also be dedicated to artistic education with theater and hip-hop workshops each week for children and young people. The Eric Sidha-Chetty auditorium is also part of an approach to supporting cultural dissemination.

A fete music festival!

Saint-Leu vibrated very strongly on the occasion of this 2024 edition of the Fête de la Musique! The Municipality had chosen to bring its waterfront to life this year with the large stage installed at the Post Office and the rue de la Compagnie des Indes given over to choirs, Maloya singers, hip hop dancers.

We liked the new concept! The public responded, coming to stroll, enjoy the different musical atmospheres and eat at the fairground stands. “We are lucky to have this very pleasant space on the seafront, we have a fairground market and flea markets there, we wanted to experience the music festival in a new, more dynamic format and it is a success! » underlined the Mayor, Bruno Domen.

A little further, the public was able to enjoy local artists at the Ti Roule rondavel, DJs, or even Leu Hosanna Festival, a Christian music event organized by the Parish of Saint-Leu.

The evening ended with a superb concert by Ziskakan who shared the stage with music school students and ALEFPA artists.

The Municipality warmly thanks all the actors and partners who have invested in this 2024 edition of the Fête de la Musique. Bravo to the artists of Saint-Leu, the students of music schools, the associations, the municipal agents and all the participants!
