Domitys celebrated one year of existence of its Senonese senior services residence this Wednesday, June 19, 2024. On the theme of America and music, it was, among other things, the opportunity to celebrate the landing of American troops in June 1944. .

Burgers, onion rings, Texan skewers and cheesecake on the menu for the hundred residents of the Orangerie who had a new opportunity to party. The Orangerie de Domitys celebrated its one year anniversary last Wednesday on the theme of America and music. The seniors participated in casino games in the afternoon, roulette, blackjack and poker were there. They were also able to admire a Jeep from the D-Day era brought by the Senonese collector Jean-Luc Prieur, with the distribution of chewing gum and stories linked to the Second World War. It was therefore an opportunity to have fun but also to have an eyeful for the naughty ones since the meal was animated by a Pompom Girls show and a Pole Dance demonstration. In the evening, a cocktail dinner was planned with fries and hot dogs to a background of country jazz.

“It was a lovely birthday day” confides Cécile Jeannotin, director of the residence. “Life is good at the Orangerie. Besides, the residents give it back to us”. A beautiful day indeed for Jacques Renouf and his wife Hélène, former insurers who have been married for 56 years, delighted to live at the Orangerie. For Jacques, who experienced the landing in Sainte-Marie-du-Mont, the village of his grandparents, it was also an opportunity to recall some memories of the landing of American soldiers on the beaches of Normandy. “What struck me the most was the fact that the Americans arrived en masse on the farm and took over the farm. In the common room, they made shelves where they put all their reserves. It ranged from corned beef to chewing gum, to soldiers’ biscuits, to chocolate rations.. But what he remembers most are entire shelves of condoms. “The soldiers were playing ball with me. They were pumping things up and we were playing like crazy. It still scores. I’ve never played ball so much…”.

In addition, all year round, the Orangerie organized events which made it possible to collect donations for a local association. “We organize lotteries for our residents and we explain to them that it is for the benefit of such an association, displaying the counter each time. For Easter, we weighed the Easter egg » explains the director of the Orangerie Cécile Jeannotin. Each time, donations are free. This anniversary therefore included the presentation of a check for €1,239 to the Association of the Pediatric Service of the Sens Hospital Center, notably in the presence of Véronique Robin, director of the Sens Hospital Center, and the mayor of the city Paul-Antoine de Carville. Always with the same “willingness to open up to the outside world”the initiative will obviously be repeated every year.
