Agents from the Haute-Garonne Departmental Council gathered this Thursday, November 14, 2024, avenue Gutenberg in Portet-sur-Garonne, south of Toulouse. A mobilization at the call of the three main unions: the CGT, Sud and FO. They received the visit and support of a national figure, in the person of Sophie Binet, general secretary of the CGT.
Against budget cuts
The gathering takes place in front of a technical room of the Department. The agents are protesting against the budgetary restrictions announced by the socialist boss of the department Sébastien Vincini after the restrictions imposed by the State. Efforts amounting to 160 million euros recently detailed Sébastien Vincini.
The current situation is particularly worrying for Sophie Binet, general secretary of the CGT. “It's obviously a problem for the agents who we're going to ask to work poorly. But it's first and foremost a problem for the population, because we're going to have less public service and less protection. This plan Government savings is dangerous because our communities play a central role in daily social ties. It is the department which ensures the protection of the most vulnerable, with all the aspects of social action, child protection. , the protection of dependent elderly people, disabled people, people in situation of exclusion.”
“It’s catastrophic”
Sophie Binet, also visiting the Labor Exchange in Toulouse, said she was “very worried. It's catastrophic for the territories. The government must back down.” For this, several days of mobilization are planned in the coming weeks. A call to demonstrate was launched this Thursday to civil servants, to Thursday, December 5.
And she's not the only one. “For example, there is already a mobilization announced next week in early childhood and in the territorial civil service, explains Sophie Binet. Then, the railway workers kicked off with a day of united action on November 21. And then on December 12, the CGT organizes a major convergence day for employment and industry. There is a mobilization plan that is being built.”
The head of the Department plans to reconsider part of the agents' RTT and has already announced that it will not renew many fixed-term contracts.
