The criminal court of Cherbourg (Manche) was to judge this Thursday November 14, 2024in procedure of immediate appearanceand 29 year old man who had stolen November 7 in the morning in Lieusaint une delivery van belonging to the company ColiServiceand its cargo of packages, as well as its destruction by firethe vehicle targeted having finally been found at the end of the afternoon burned in a field in Rauville-la-Place.
The justice also blames him for theft with destruction and damage of another vehicle – a Renault Modus – on the night of November 4 to 5, the theft of a handbag on the night of November 3 to 4, of a backpack on November 7 and of a bag hand on October 20. All these acts having been committed in Saint-Lô.
Six mentions on his record
At the bar, the defendant requested time to prepare his defense.
Son criminal record counts not less than six mentions since 2018, in particular for acts of vols, driving under drugs or use, rebellion.
His last conviction dates back to November 2023 for unlawful carrying of a bladed weapon.
Without any activity, the defendant, a native of Cherbourg, is single but the father of a 5-year-old daughter. He receives the RSA and lives in a mobile home with his parents in Saint-Lois.
He uses heroin and cocaine daily. He is being medically monitored by a health professional in Saint-Lô.
Continued detention
The case was postponed until December 7, the man having asked to prepare his defense.
The question therefore arose whether he should remain in prison or not.
The judges followed the prosecution's requisitions and ordered its continued detentionthe president of the court justifying this choice based on “the risk of repetition of the facts”, “the risk of pressure on the witness”, “the absence of guarantee of representation” or even on his criminal record.
For the facts with which he is accused, he faces a sentence of five years in prison.
