Daniel Moiron donates land from the Vézelay vineyard to the Hospices Civils de Beaune

This family donation brings to fruition a project that has been dormant within him for a long time: that of associating Vézelay with the influence of the Hospices Civils de Beaune

Last Monday, May 6, in the heart of the vat room of the Hospices de Beaune estate, Daniel Moiron and his family came to complete the historic donations received by the institution, with a plot of 22.42 ares in AOC Vézelay located on the commune of Thavoiseau.
Very attached to the Vézelay vineyard, Daniel Moiron has been working on its renewal and development for 40 years. It must be said that the Moiron family, through Daniel and his wife Monique, has always been rocked to the rhythm of the vines. At the question : ” but why do you give? “, he humbly responds that this donation is above all family and that it is a great pride for them to make this ” unique and grandiose opportunity » to do a beautiful thing for the Vézelien. And his son, Guillaume, adds how much for him too, this gift symbolizes his strong attachment to the vine and wine.
Since 1981, Daniel has tasted all the vintages of the Domaine des Hospices de Beaune every year in November, and has thus become familiar with the estate’s wines. This shows his attachment to the wine-growing hospital institution. This family donation brings to fruition a project that has been dormant within him for a long time: that of associating Vézelay with the influence of the Hospices Civils de Beaune. This plot in AOC Vézelay therefore creates this link between the two. It is still in the meadow, everything has to be done, the soil preparation work should begin in the fall. Planting should follow shortly, in Chardonnay.
His career confirms it, he loves his wine-growing land, where his roots lie: it all began in 1982. Daniel Moiron was then commissioned by the President of the Morvan Regional Park, Paul Flandin, to, among other things, create momentum for the renewal of the Vézelay vineyard. This is how, in two years, 16 hectares will be planted, a GFA and even a winemaking unit for the production of quality wines will be created, thus launching the Vézelay vineyard.
Daniel Moiron continues to be involved alongside the mayors of the four municipalities of Vézelien to promote the claim of the AOC Bourguignon. This shows his pride on November 9, 2017 when Vézelay was officially recognized as the 44th AOC in Burgundy for its white wines!
The plot is located very close to the house of Daniel and Monique Moiron, no one doubts that Daniel will keep his caring and passionate eye on this newborn!
The Hospices Civils de Beaune are delighted with this project which still perpetuates the spirit of its founders. No one doubts that the notion of care will be at the heart of this new vineyard.

About
The history of the Hospices Civils de Beaune began in 1443 with the desire of Nicolas Rolin and Guigone de Salins to build a hospital: the Hôtel-Dieu. The founders carried out acts of charity and patronage, thus establishing a tradition which has allowed the Hospices de Beaune to go through history in exceptional conditions. The originality of this hospital institution lies in the importance and nature of its heritage consisting on the one hand of a historic monument, the Hôtel-Dieu de Beaune, and on the other hand of a prestigious wine estate 60 hectares of the best appellations of Burgundy. The vines grown come from legacies or donations from generous benefactors in the region. The fruit of this work is marketed each year during an auction. The Hospices de Beaune wine sale traditionally takes place every third Sunday in November as part of the most famous charity sale in the world.
