He pretended to be a police officer to attack women, the Orléans prosecutor’s office launches an appeal for victims

A man, aged 43 and living in Val-de-Marne, was arrested on June 14.

The latter is suspected of having posed as a police officer to commit offenses against young women, particularly in Loiret.

The Orléans public prosecutor’s office is launching an appeal for victims this Thursday.

Without this victim, would he still be cracking down? Thursday June 13, a young woman presented herself at the Orléans police station to report the attack she had just suffered. According to her statements, a few hours earlier in the town of Fleury-les-Aubrais (Loiret), a man wearing a chasuble and a “police” armband forced her to get into his vehicle, before trying to force a sexual relationship on him, pretexting that he had committed road safety offences.

Informed of these facts, the Orléans public prosecutor’s office immediately opened an investigation carried out blatantly on charges of “kidnapping and sequestration” and “attempted rape”. The local judicial police service and the interdepartmental judicial police service of the Loiret interdepartmental police directorate were responsible for the investigations. And quickly, these bore fruit…

A forty-year-old arrested

“The information transmitted by the complainant made it possible, thanks to the partial reading of a license plate and other investigations, to identify a man aged 43 and living in Val-de-Marne. In the same time, investigators found another victim who had also been approached by this man, in the gendarmerie zone in the Loiret department.indicates Emmanuelle Rochenek-Puren, public prosecutor of Orléans in a press release this Thursday morning.

On Friday June 14, the day after the young woman’s complaint, the suspect was arrested at his home by judicial police officers from the territorial directorate of the national police of Val-de-Marne and placed in police custody, in the department initially, then in Loiret where the commission of the facts took place.

A judicial investigation was opened on June 15, 2024 on charges of attempted “rape, arrest, kidnapping, kidnapping or arbitrary detention to facilitate a crime or misdemeanor”, “wearing a costume resembling a police uniform to commit a crime or misdemeanor, public use of a vehicle that could create confusion with those of the police to commit a crime or misdemeanor.” Presented to an investigating judge, the suspect was indicted on these counts and placed in pre-trial detention.

Were there other victims?

The investigations are now carried out under the direction of the investigating magistrate seized. The authorities are particularly seeking to find out whether this individual committed acts other than the two with which he is now accused. To try to obtain an answer to this question, the Orléans public prosecutor’s office and the police are launching an appeal for victims, but also for witnesses.

Any person, victim or witness, of facts relating to the current judicial investigation is invited to contact the Orléans police station on 02 38 24 30 00.
