The managers of the road and motorway network (DIR Est, departmental council, municipalities, and SANEF), work all year round to ensure the safety and maintenance of the roads.

With the arrival of the winter period, weather conditions can make traffic on the main roads difficult. The latter can be characterized as normal, delicate, difficult or even impossible.

To ensure the maintenance of traffic during winter, the specific winter service system will be activated in Moselle from November 18, 2024 to March 10, 2025.

Despite the means implemented in the viability plan, driving conditions can deteriorate very quickly. In the case of specific or exceptional circumstances, traffic restriction measures or road closures could be taken in order to guarantee the safety of all.

Practical advice

Before any trip, find out about the weather conditions on https://meteofrance.com and about the traffic conditions on www.bison-fute.gouv.fr or www.inforoute57.fr.

Adapt your behavior and driving to the traffic conditions. If the trip you are planning is considered difficult, postpone it.

Before hitting the road, remember to carry out a few checks:

  • fill the windshield washer fluid reservoir with an antifreeze product;
  • check the correct functioning of the battery and ignition systems,
  • power, defrost and heating;
  • use suitable equipment.

While moving:

  • reduce speed;
  • respect safety distances;
  • give priority to snow removal and salting machines;
  • be vigilant for patches of ice.
