The temperature in some of the department's college gymnasiums has dropped by two degrees since the end of the All Saints' Day vacation. In a letter addressed to establishment directors, the department explains this choice and sets minimum temperature at 10 degrees. “This decision has a dual objective, to be part of a process of greater resilience in the climatic, social and financial sobriety context that we must operate within the framework of the current discussions of the finance bill which poses a strong financial pressure on the department“, explains Anaïs Luquedey, the director of Education and Colleges at the Gironde departmental council.
A saving of 7% per degree less
This measure only targets college gymnasiums. There are 52 of the 112 colleges in the department. “We targeted him on dynamic practicesdojos and activity rooms which host gentle practices are not affected by this measure. We are on dynamic activities, the practice linked to basketball, handball, volleyball and which can be on other sites practiced outside on sports platforms“, continues Anaïs Luquedey.
“We are still on heated equipment so we still have comfort. But with a setting temperature of ten degrees depending on the outside temperature, that does not mean that we will heat at ten degrees all winter.“, adds the Director of Education and Colleges at the Gironde departmental council.
According to the department's estimates, this measure would allow a reduction of 7% for a degree of economy. “This represents several thousand euros of savings, it is money that preserves the community to be able to continue to invest. We have money that can be used for other purposes“, concludes Anaïs Luquedey, who assures that as of November 13, no college has asked the department to turn up the heating in the gymnasiums. This measure is effective until the April holidays.
