The Sûreté du Québec carried out a national road safety operation yesterday, June 18, across its entire territory.

Accompanied by more than 30 partners, including road inspectors from the Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ), the police intervened on problematic behavior in order to make drivers aware of their involvement and responsibility in improving the balance sheet. road and increase the feeling of security on the entire road network.

On the occasion of the third edition of this type of operation at the provincial level, 5,356 statements of offense were issued by all those involved. Nearly half of these, or 2,668, concern speeding, 216 failure to wear a seat belt, 239 distracted driving and 2,233 various other violations of the Highway Safety Code.

The over-representation of certain vulnerable user groups in the collision report in recent weeks provided an opportunity to partner with the Fédération motocycliste du Québec (FMQ) and the Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ). in order to raise awareness among road users to adopt good driving practices.

This operation is part of the Transport network security strategy 2021-2026 “ Human life, at the heart of our actions », which aims to reduce the number of fatal collisions and collisions with serious injuries throughout the territory served by the Sûreté du Québec. Courses of action affecting each of the axes of the Strategy: Partnership, Intervention, Awareness, Technology, Evaluation (PISTE) are implemented by the Sûreté as well as its partners in order to move towards a common objective, that of making our roads, our trails and bodies of water safer.
