Launched four years ago to reward a Swiss personality, the Swiss Prize is awarded for the first time to an artist. Federal Councilor Beat Jans will present it on November 9 to Büne Huber, frontman of the Bernese rock band Patent Ochsner.

After the entrepreneur Peter Spuhler, the doctor and scientist Martine Clozel and the skier Marco Odermatt, it is the turn of an artist to receive the Swiss Prize.

A 62-year-old Bernese singer, Büne Huber has left his mark on the Swiss music scene, writes Initiative Suisse, at the origin of this prize, in a press release published on Wednesday. Even if he sings in the Bernese dialect, Patent Ochsner is one of the rare groups that has crossed the Röstigraben.

Seven Swiss Music Awards on the clock

“W. Nuss vo Bümpliz” or “Bälpmoos” are hits in German-speaking Switzerland. Patent Ochsner offers rock and folk through experimental sounds and uses various instruments such as the mandolin and the accordion.
