Meurthe-et-Moselle. A dozen tombs vandalized and stripped near Pont-à-Mousson

Alerted by a resident of the town, Alain Cerutti, the mayor, immediately contacted the gendarmerie.

The latter went to the site on Sunday morning, November 10, to observe the damage and conduct an initial neighborhood survey.

On the tombs, the funerary plaques have been stripped of their ornaments. The theft only concerns parts screwed onto the plates and not the plates themselves. Often made of bronze or brass, they are the subject of an odious trade.

Families in tears

The thieves probably entered the cemetery at night one or two days before the crime was discovered.

The families were contacted and some had already gone to the graves of their deceased, in tears. “We don’t even respect our dead anymore!” Of course it's easy, they can't defend themselves! », laments a resident, upset.

An act severely punished by law

You should know that this rape, which demonstrates the respect due to the dead, is severely punished by the Penal Code. The culprit(s) face 1 to 5 years of imprisonment and a fine of 15,000 to 75,000 euros.

A complaint was filed by the municipality.
