the necessary energy renovation of schools scrutinized

A busy agenda awaited the Municipal Council on Monday June 17, including the report on the energy audit concerning nursery and primary schools. Jean-Marie Prévot, in charge of the works commission, went into the details of these two files, complicated and above all very expensive.

Jean-Marie Prévot, president of the works commission, detailed the results of the energy audit commissioned on the two schools.

The building which houses the nursery school, covering an area of 801 m², was built in 1974. Gas (boiler) represents 75% of the energy bill; electricity (presence of a water heater), 25%. Uninsulated concrete walls and joinery cause a lot of loss (43% and 21% respectively). Regarding lighting, neon tubes still need to be replaced.

Several options are proposed to reduce heat loss: insulation of walls from the inside or outside, insulation of false ceilings, installation of interior blinds and a heat pump, VMC. All this for a very approximate total amount of 200,000 euros.

600,000 euros in total

The primary school is based on a building built in 1957, with a surface area of 1,215 m² on three levels. It is heated entirely by gas (91% of the energy bill), while the 200 liter electric hot water tank is much too large for its intended use.

The primary school dates from 1957.

The walls are made of concrete, the floors too, the joinery is defective, there is no VMC and no insulation of the false ceilings. Major work is therefore to be expected: replacement of joinery; insulation of walls and floors; installation of air conditioning or a heat pump, with connection; changing the hot water tank. All this represents an investment of 400,000 euros, added to the 200,000 for the nursery school.

Certain work being obligatory, elected officials decided to study these audits carefully before making a decision.
