The Essonne Departmental Council has just deployed its winter service on the roads in its territory this Tuesday, November 12. Here's what it allows.
Like every year, the Essonne Departmental Council sets up the winter service period. This one starts from this Tuesday, November 12 and will end on Monday, March 31 in the morning. As a reminder, this winter service, deployed over the 1,500 kilometers of the departmental road network, “brings together all the actions for monitoring, prevention and combating the road consequences of winter phenomena (ice, snow, snowdrifts)”, indicates the community in a press release.
To do this, it relies on monitoring of traffic conditions and mobilizes 90 people, including controllers, patrol officers and works agents, 7 days a week and 24 hours a day. “Every day, these teams receive a local weather report, which they cross-reference with data from road weather stations and the state of the roadways. A command post based in Evry-Courcouronnes centralizes the various information in real time: traffic conditions, weather data, processing carried out, in order to best coordinate actions on the ground,” explains the Department of Essonne.
And, if necessary, the services salt or clear the road according to 29 predefined circuits in the area. On average, treatment time is between three and five hours. “The Department’s vehicles are equipped with innovative devices such as on-board sensors and electronic frost depth indicators. The objective is to reduce costs and environmental impact by adjusting salting operations and the quantities of salt spilled on the roadways,” declares the community in its press release.
