Only 20 years old, Sacha Bastelica, a native of Bastia and a political science student in Lyon, has already made a name for himself as an outgoing advisor to the Assemblea di a Ghjuventù. It was in the southern districts of Bastia that he presented his approach: “In 1936, Léon Blum created the Popular Front against the extreme right. Today, history calls us to break away from stagnation. To the difficulty of living for some, to poverty, to ecological disaster, to inequalities, we respond to the Popular Front. We are also fighting for our youth, which must be an asset. »

Karl Tomasi, his campaign manager, reinforced this speech by emphasizing the scope of their commitment: “Our objective in this campaign will be to speak to all Corsicans, towns, villages, Corsicans as a whole. We are calling for mobilization against Macron’s extreme right and extreme center and we will fight them on the ground. Today, we can speak of a path of hope. »

The candidacy of Sacha Bastelica and his deputy, Carla Vinciguerra, emerged at the last minute. Initially, Michel Stefani, regional general secretary of the Communist Party, had submitted his candidacy before withdrawing to support the New Corsican Popular Front. Support also provided by the socialist Emmanuelle de Gentili, aiming to counter the far right. “It’s true that we took the time but we found an agreement with all the left-wing parties in the four constituencies. This is an advantage for beating the far right, which leaves divided. I emphasize that I am not LFI, I am Front Populaire, a candidate of the left neither extreme nor of the center and I remain independent with certain divergences. I am the Corsican Popular Front candidate. We achieved a historic compromise in Corsica by uniting the entire left,” explained Sacha Bastelica.

As for the results of the outgoing MP Michel Castellani, it was considered positive by the young candidate: “ It is not negligible, it is a good assessment even if we do not agree on everything. Anyway, he’s not our opponent. Our adversary is the far right. » Carla Vinciguerra added: “We are the voice of the people of the left. We are a second wind for young people. We are fighting the center right and the far right, parties that are harmful to immigration and poverty. »

Wide support
Support for this candidacy is not limited to the PC and the PS, absent from the press conference. A Manca and the Greens also joined the movement.“We stand proudly by his side. It has a realistic program which supports Corsican youth, a new generation which does not accept segregation. We want to get out of this medieval society. » said Didier Ramelet-Stuart of A Manca.

The Greens announced their intention to support Bastelica and the other candidates in the other three constituencies: “Our hope is to have four deputies to change things, to question in particular the pension reform and ASSEDIC. We want the insularity bonus for retirees and employees who do not yet benefit from it,” declared Hélène Sanchez, of EELV, who will be in Ponte Leccia this Tuesday to launch the campaign of the New Popular Front in the 2nd constituency of Haute Corse.
