Exceptionally, the 2024 edition of Telethon will not take place the first weekend in December, like every year. In question, the reopening of Notre-Dame de Paris cathedral. The organizers then decided to bring forward the national event to weekend of November 29 and 30.
In the west of the Oise, more than 80 events are already planned for this new edition, compared to 104 last year. “There is still time to organizeproclaims Céline Duval, delegate of the AFM Téléthon Oise. This is possible until December 31.» Indeed, several municipalities have decided to link their events with the Telethon. In Rantigny, for example, donations will be collected during the Christmas market on December 7 and 8. The last event will take place in Fouquerolles, near Beauvais, on December 21.
Small events can be organized
Mobilizing troops is proving increasingly complicated. “At the beginning of July, all the mayors received a letter from us, only fifty-four of them decided to organize somethingdeplores the delegate. Institutionals are having trouble moving. While there are simple things to do, like providing a box of batteries. With a ton of batteries, you get back €250. We harvested 700 kg last year.»
Schools can also replace their traditional cross country with the muscle race, where a sum of money is donated to the Telethon. Libraries can sell old books, charts can be sold… In short, there is no shortage of ideas. “Small streams make big riverssmiles Céline Duval. It's with pancakes that we saved children!»
Nearly €500,000 last year in the west of Oise
Last year, €463,225 was raisedjust for the western part of the Oise department: €61,000 thanks to donations made to 3637, €155,000 received on the Internet, €89,000 by mail, and €154,000 thanks to activities and events organized in the municipalities . In Oise, the sum was close to a million euros. “The objective is to do like the Nord and Pas-de-Calais and exceed one million this year», Hopes Céline Duval.
In Beauvais, Place Jeanne-Hachette will be in the colors of the Telethon for a weekend, on November 29 and 30, just before the start of the Christmas Fairies. “A family will make oriental pastries, others will sell bracelets and Christmas decorations, there will be boccia, a Kapla trick competition… The Jeanne Hachette parties will be there, as will UniLaSalle, Sambagage, the scouts, the firefighters. There will be something for everyone!»
Every donation counts
Every small donation is important to advance research. This is why Céline Duval got involved with the association around ten years ago. “My son died at 3 years and 12 days from spinal muscular atrophy, she remembers, not without emotion. We learned that he had it on November 10, 2011, at 6 p.m. Suffice to say that the next day, it was very hard to get a doctor. So we turned to the AFM Téléthon which helped us a lot. Today, I want to return the favor to the association. Donations are important to continue clinical trials. In 2011, the life expectancy of a child with spinal muscular atrophy was six months. Today, a small sufferer of the disease has just returned to school. If my son had been born today, he would have been saved.»
It is possible to donate by calling 3637, or directly at the events organized in favor of the Telethon, or by stopping by the premises in Beauvais (see below). For any information, contact Céline Duval at [email protected]. To organize an event, use the address [email protected].
New premises for the western branch of Oise
Since June 1, the western branch of the Oise department of AFM Téléthon has been located in Beauvais, at 1 rue des Filatures. “We could no longer receive the public in our premises in Breuil-le-Sec», explains Céline Duval.
These new premises were inaugurated on October 12. There we find the coordination office, which, as its name indicates, coordinates all events organized in the west of the department. There is also the delegation part which takes care of families by organizing moments of conviviality and respite. Finally, the regional service can receive families there. In total, 180 families are accompanied in the Oise.
