Enedis recently installed bird protection devices on three electricity poles in the town located in the Arve valley.
These aim to limit the risks of electrocution of birds on power lines, thanks to deterrent candles or protections suspended on supports and sheaths. It was the League for the Protection of Birds which identified the lines as a risk zone. Several poles in this sector had already been protected last year.
Details from ENEDIS and the LPO Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes:
Enedis is installing bird protection devices on electrical poles in La Tour (74), alongside its partners including the LPO AuRA
On Thursday June 13, Enedis installed bird protection devices on three electricity poles in the town of La Tour in Haute-Savoie, aiming to limit the risks of electrocution of birds on the power lines.
A device to protect birds
In order to protect avifauna from electrical risk, several systems exist and are regularly used by Enedis on electrical lines: installation of deterrent candles and protections suspended on the supports, conductor sheaths or even installation of firefly (beacons that clip onto the lines , reflective and able to rotate thanks to the wind).
Suspended protections as well as deterrent candles aim to prevent the risk of electrocution by insulating current conductors and preventing birds from accessing the poles.
The power line on which these devices were installed was identified by the LPO as a risk area for the electrocution of raptors. Last year, several poles in this sector were also protected.
These devices were installed using insulating poles, operated by Enedis High Voltage A Voltage Works (TST HTA) intervention technicians. During this installation, the network remains under tension, thus avoiding any power cuts to customers.
A class of 19 CM1-CM2 students from La Tour primary school were able to participate in this pose as part of an activity led by LPO 74.
