Here is a record that the Rennais would have done without. “There was not the slightest ray of sunshine between Thursday October 31 and Sunday November 10, a total of 11 days without sunshine,” analyzes Stéven Tual, forecaster at Temps Breton.
“The city is plunged into permanent fog, it’s hell. This phenomenon is explained by a very lasting anticyclonic period which occurs after several extremely humid weeks which favored condensation. The high pressures compress this air to the ground and the situation remains frozen as there is no wind.”
According to data from Météo Bretagne, this series is simply historic in Rennes since the beginning of measurements. It exceeds the old record which was 10 days without sun in December-January 2010 and December 1956.
The sun briefly returns
The inhabitants of the Breton capital can still be reassured. This endless series has just ended this Monday, November 11.
“The sensors recorded 24 minutes of sunshine today, mainly late in the morning,” says Stéven Tual. “With the cold drop arriving in the Mediterranean, the configuration will change. The wind will pick up and chase away these low clouds. If the temperatures cool down, we should see more frequent clearings.”
