Human trafficking “is the heart of the accusation” in the resounding case judged a week ago by the Geneva Criminal Court. This trial is of course that of the four members of the very rich Hinduja family and their confidant. And for the first prosecutor Yves Bertossa, there is no doubt: “The defendants took advantage of the great vulnerability of these employees to exploit their work force.” On Monday, following a relentless indictment, the Public Prosecutor’s Office requested sentences of 5 and a half years against the parents and 4 and a half years against the son Ajay and his wife.

Against the confidant, considered an accomplice, the prosecution requested a 3-year sentence with partial suspension. Yves Bertossa finally requested the pronouncement of a compensatory claim of 3.5 million francs in favor of the State, stressing that the arrangement reached at the last minute by the defense and the complaining parties says nothing about unpaid salaries, but refers presents as a sort of starting convention. Finally, Yves Bertossa requested an order for the costs of the procedure set at one million.
