Motorola unveils two new razr foldable phones

It’s been exactly twenty years since Motorola launched its first Razr flip phone. The company is celebrating the occasion in style by introducing two new foldables, the Razr 50 and the more luxurious Razr 50 Ultra.

Unlike the original RAZR V3, the newcomers are obviously equipped with a real foldable screen. The most striking difference between the base model and the Ultra model is that the high-end version has a larger external OLED display (4 inches) which, when closed, takes up almost the entire screen. front of the device. The other screen measures 6.9 inches on both devices and offers an FHD+ resolution of 2,640 x 1,080 pixels.

Gemini and Moto AI

The new Razrs are among the first devices to come standard with Gemini, Google’s AI assistant. The latter is quickly accessible even in closed mode, by simply pressing the on/off button. Handy for exploring popular tourist spots in the area or making a recipe based on the contents of your fridge, to name just a few random examples.

Later this year, smartphone artificial intelligence will be further expanded by Moto AI, developed by Motorola itself, with gadgets such as Catch me up (a sort of summary of all your notifications) and Pay attention (to automatically create transcriptions and summaries).

‘Reverse charging’

The Razr 50 Ultra is one of the first foldables to be powered by the powerful Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 mobile platform. The other Razr packs a MediaTek Dimensity 7300X processor. And while that device has 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, the Razr 50 Ultra comes with 12GB and 512GB.

The Ultra’s camera island includes a main model and a 50-megapixel telephoto lens, with which you can optically zoom 2x without losing image quality. The Razr 50 also has a 50-megapixel camera and a second 13-megapixel camera for wide-angle and macro shots.

As for the battery, there is no major difference. The Razr 50 Ultra has a 4,000 mAh battery supporting fast charging at 45 W, wireless charging at 15 W and reverse charging at 5 W. This last feature will allow you to use the phone to, for example, charge your wireless headphones, or even another smartphone. For its part, the Razr 50 has a 4,200 mAh battery that can be quickly recharged at 30 W and which also supports wireless and reverse charging.

Pricing and availability

The indicative price of the Motorola razr 50 is 900 euros. The device is available in Beach Sand, Koala Gray and Spritz Orange versions. The Ultra model costs 1,200 euros and is available in the colors Midnight Blue, Spring Green, Pink Peacock and Peach Fuzz. Motorola originally supplies a protective cover (also foldable) in the same color as the device. Quick decision-makers will also receive a free set of Moto Buds+ headphones worth 150 euros with the purchase of a Razr 50 (Ultra).
