If the arrival of Pope Francis in Corsica is not yet official, it was mentioned for the first time by theANDchurch this Sunday, November 10.
“The announcement has not yet been made, it depends on the Holy See to make it completely official”indicated the president of the Conference of Bishops of France (CEF), ANDric de Moulins-Beaufort, during a press conference in Lourdes. “If the pope decides to come to Corsica on December 15, that’s very good”estimated the man who is also Archbishop of Reims.
In his closing speech to the CEF plenary assembly, ANDric de Moulins-Beaufort had already mentioned this possible arrival in the imperial city : “if it turns out that Pope Francis comes to Ajaccio the following week” of the reopening of Notre-Dame on December 8, “like the noise going on, we would receive one more stimulation from it.”
While awaiting confirmation of this visit, which should take place in mid-November, the faithful of Ajaccio Cathedral are preparing for the possibility of this event which would be a historic first. “Is he coming or not? That’s the question!asks one of them after leaving mass this Sunday. If he comes, I'm very happy, if he doesn't come, I'm very happy too.”
“It would be an honor to have the pope here… if we can see him! Because he will see people… So yes, it's still a source of pride for Corsica”confides another man.
“This can bring young people like me, like other young people that I know, who come to mass, who I can see today, declares a young woman. And it also shows the affinity that there is for Monsignor Bustillo and I think that is very important.”
