The presidential party, however, announces that it will not give voting instructions between the former president and the outgoing LR deputy, Francis Dubois.

No Macronist on the road to François Hollande. While the former socialist president created a surprise on Saturday by announcing that he was a candidate for the legislative elections in Corrèze, the presidential party decided not to nominate a candidate against him. The entourage of the former head of state indicates that the latter has indeed “observed” the absence of a Renaissance competitor, while claiming not to have been consulted by the majority for this decision.

“Risk of dispersing votes”

The former socialist president, running under the banner of the New Popular Front, thinks above all that this absence must be interpreted “within the framework of the relationship between the presidential majority and the LR” while agreements have already been made between the two in other territories. Nothing is so certain since Francis Dubois, outgoing LR deputy and new candidate in the 1st constituency of Corrèze, voted for the Liot group’s motion of censure against the government, in March 2023. Renaissance also makes it known that no voting instructions will not be given between François Hollande and the representative of the right.

A senior member of the presidential party summarizes the strategy adopted by the macronie as follows: “In around sixty constituencies, a candidacy from our ranks is not capable of being a useful vote (understand, against the RN or LFI, editor’s note). François Hollande’s constituency corresponds to this situation. It was therefore decided not to nominate any candidate.

The former Modem deputy, Christophe Jerretie, beaten in 2022 in the first round failing in third position, also explained this decision to Figaro : “Between François Hollande, the LR deputy and me, we took the risk of dispersing the votes and allowing the RN to access the second round. It’s a difficult decision but you have to reason with yourself, I didn’t want to jeopardize the central space. We leave the freedom of voting to the voters”
