Spectacular turn of events. One day after submitting her candidacy for the prefecture, regional councilor Anna Stépanoff (Horizons), who intended to run in the third constituency of Eure-et-Loir (Lucé – Nogent-le-Rotrou), finally announces her withdrawal . She published a press release to explain this choice, this Sunday, June 16, 2024.

“My campaign was very short.” A few hours before the deadline for submitting candidacy for the early legislative elections of June 30 and July 7, 2024, Anna Stépanoff (Horizons) finally announces that she will not run for the post of deputy for the third constituency of Eure-et-Loir ( Lucé – Nogent-le-Rotrou).

The founder of the Wild Code School, currently regional councilor for Centre-Val de Loire (Centre, Democrat, Republican and Citizen group), announced her candidacy in the middle of the week.

Yet another twist

Yet another twist in the constituency seen as the most “taken” by the National Rally and in which a “heavyweight”, Christophe Bay, who was notably campaign director of Marine Le Pen, submitted his candidacy.

The regional councilor had, however, claimed to have submitted her candidacy this Saturday, June 15 in the morning, and had designated her deputy, Hervé Buisson, the mayor of Courville-sur-Eure and vice-president of the Department. Anna Stépanoff publicized the announcement of this candidacy on her social networks. An application that Republican Echo had already been relayed earlier in the week, and which had been confirmed to us.

A union “facing the risk of the extreme right”

So, what happened in the space of a few hours? “Faced with the risk of the far-right in our constituency, we need a union. There have been discussions between several parties, explains Anna Stépanoff, contacted this Sunday, June 16 by telephone after the announcement of her withdrawal “Everything happened very quickly. There is another candidate more relevant than me and I therefore decided to withdraw my candidacy. What matters is to unite against the far right.”

Without specifying exactly which parties are uniting, nor giving the name of the candidate, she affirms “to support this broad union”. His words are reminiscent of those of Luc Lamirault (Horizons), outgoing MP, who had decided not to run again and who advocated this union. “We must not multiply the applications and divide the votes,” he emphasized in The EchoFriday June 14.

On the left, Carole Geraci, resident of Saintigny, was first announced as a candidate and representative of PS-Place Publique, before this candidacy was rejected.
