In the south-east of Spain, the population continues to work on clean-up. Saturday November 9, anger was expressed in Valencia, with a feeling of abandonment towards political leaders.

The thick layer of mud still does not disappear almost two weeks after the floods. Despite hours of cleaning, hundreds of firefighters and volunteers at work, the streets of Massanassa (Spain) remained devastated on Sunday November 10. Exasperated, tens of thousands of Spanish citizens let their anger explode the day before. As a symbol of their resentment, mud from the floods was thrown on public buildings, and the word “Assassin” targeted the president of the region Carlos Mazon.

According to the demonstrators, the incompetence of the leaders is responsible for the 220 deaths recorded. The red alert was sounded after the start of torrential rains. Another reason: the late arrival of relief and insufficient means to rebuild the towns. Thousands of volunteers, carrying plastic bags, had to come to the aid of the victims. The protests targeted both the regional power and the central power led by Pedro Sanchez.
