“Look at Loulou, you saw the truck, it’s in the house! » This Sunday, the eve of November 11, the inhabitants of Bresles, a village near Beauvais (Oise) could not believe it. The previous evening, on rue du Petit Chantilly, a truck hit three vehicles parked in front of a house in its mad rush before crashing into the wall of a neighboring barn.
Behind the barriers dotted with tape that restrict access, a resident can't help but take out his cell phone: “He wasn't pretending given the state of the truck. » The day after the accident, the vehicle, badly damaged, remained stuck in the wall, without it being possible to extract it. The mayor of the town, Dominique Cordier, immediately issued a security order for the building built at the beginning of the 19th century, due to the imminent risk of collapse of the gable facing the street.
This Sunday afternoon, Lucas (first name changed), whose house is next to the barn – which belongs to his brother-in-law – was still stunned. Saturday evening, however, he celebrated a happy family event: the birth of his daughter. A Saturday spent in complete peace, disturbed at around 10 p.m. “The neighbor across the street came to ring the bell saying: come and see”, says the thirty-year-old.
Although he swears he heard nothing, his neighbor across the street jumped: “When I heard that, I went out. I saw two men on the passenger side running away, he remembers. The driver tried to get the van out but as it was firmly embedded, nothing moved. He left everything there and ran the other way. »
Seeing the chaos sown by the crazy truck, the neighborhood noticed the damage. “Two cars belong to my cousins and the third to my uncle. Two were crushed and another was badly damaged,” says Lucas. A few minutes later, the very unfortunate witnesses saw two of the fleeing passengers in the truck return. “They came back to get what they had forgotten on board, including a bottle of whiskey…” says a neighbor with a chuckle.
The driver actively sought
One of them tries to scamper away again but falls headfirst onto a sidewalk. “He complained of neck pain. He was bleeding and spitting up a little blood, Lucas continues. As he was feeling unwell, we put him on PLS [NDLR : position latérale de sécurité]. » Police and firefighters arrived on site shortly after. The two passengers, intoxicated, were then taken to hospital.
For now, the driver is still actively sought by the police. According to our information, investigations and hearings are continuing. The owners of the damaged vehicles are feverishly awaiting the outcome.
