Cornelians remember. From Thursday June 6, 2024and until September 30, around forty panels are placed in the village and its nearby countryside.
To discover above, the testimony of around fifteen residents on an episode of the Release in Saint-Cornier-des-Landes, commune of Tinchebray-Bocage (Orne).
The village of Saint-Cornier, between two shooting zones
“These testimonies were collected in 2014, for a large exposure on the occasion of the 70e anniversary of D-Day. For the 80ewe decided to recover all the elements evoking the Liberation and make it something new, visible to all”, testifies Frédérique Roullier, deputy mayor of Saint-Cornier.
Placed outdoors, the small panels in wood relay the events where they happened, between June 6 and August 44.
The village of Saint-Cornier was between two firing zones and even housed German hospitals, including one within the church which was requisitioned.
The chosen one, who installed the explanatory materials with the valuable help of Émilie Thomas, municipal councilor, Estéban Damas and Thierry Aubert, village councilors, indicates that the latter can be consulted without order defined.
“We can also imagine, why not, doing the tour by car, or for those who are more walkers, doing the circuit on foot. » An initiative which is aimed at everyone, but especially at younger generations in order to “transmit to them this episode of our History”.
The map with the location of each panel is available in shops, at the town hall or on the Dans mon village Facebook page.
