“Here is theFrench excellence», announces Charly Varin, president of Villedieu Intercom. Mauviel, in Villedieu-les-Poêles (Manche), is one of the jewels of the Manche copper city .

His cooking tools are renowned, appreciated by greatest chefslike the individuals . The company manufactures parts inherited from expertise of brassware and its founder Ernest Mauviel.

She masters the art of cutting, hammering and polishing. His manufacturing are, for the most part, artisanal and his professions are all gestures that come from the past and from the first coppersmiths. She employs around a hundred people including five in its subsidiary in the United States.

It has been located in the current premises since 1960. We are the last to manufacture certain products. As the 7th generation, I have a duty to safeguard and pass on our know-how and to be more industrial to meet the demands of our customers and the international development of the company.

Mauviel 1830 sells its products, in equal parts, to professionalsand individuals. 70% of its production is exported . Since Covid, internet sales have exploded: they represent 80% of USAand 30% in France .

The company has just opened an exclusive distribution in Korea and in Indiaand aims for tomorrow Mexico THE Canadaand the Emirates . Her annual salesclose to the 20 million euros .

Immersive training

THE recruitment and the mastery of manufacturing techniques are a challenge for this almost bicentennial manufacture in a context of tight labor marketin the Channel.

In December 2023 she appealed to the Region to set up a new deviceunder theTraining action in the workplace.

It is a specific and innovative training, totally immersive. It takes place entirely within the company with a tutor. Around ten companies are currently considering adopting it.

Mauviel is the first company in the former Lower Normandy to experiment with it. At spring 2023 , Anthony Mesnil joined the silent company; the job seeker previously worked in a Breton golfwhere he ensured maintenance of green spaces .

He is guided in thelearning of his new profession by Laurent Blin who followed, beforehand, a trainingto pass on their know-how. The business manager believes in this system:

This perfectly addresses our difficulties in finding operators for our jobs. In-house training is adapted to our needs, since we have very specific know-how and experts willing to pass it on. It allows us to retain our employees by giving meaning to the profession. I believe that this is also what people are looking for today, not just a job, it is also a meaning in what they are going to do. And this system really allows you to go in depth by giving meaning to the profession.
