Dagoberto Linhares, you are not unknown in Petite Montagne, what is your background?

“I was born in São Paulo in Brazil, I started my musical studies at 7 years old. At that time I was supported by my grandfather Araken Patusca, who was a distinguished footballer – he played in the World Cup in Paris in 1930. I was offered to come to Switzerland to be an assistant at the conservatory of Geneva. I arrived in 1972, at the age of 18, but ultimately I was hired as a full professor at the Friborg conservatory while continuing my studies. I won the first prize for virtuosity and was a winner the following year at the Geneva Musical Performance Competition (one of the most important in Europe, Editor’s note) and at the Maria-Canales competition in Barcelona.

These two awards opened the doors to numerous festivals around the world for me. I was able to play in New York, at the Lincoln Center, which is equivalent to the Olympia. I had the chance to play with great conductors in the most famous venues! Our guitar duo formed with Raymond Migy, guitarist, professor at the Lausanne Conservatory, has also toured the 4 continents. I was responsible for the guitar and chamber music class at the Haute-École de musique de Lausanne where I trained students from all over the world. I stayed there until my retirement four years ago, but my pleasure in sharing my music through concerts is still present. »

What circumstances brought you to Vogna on this farm?

“I wanted to find a house in France to give concerts and organize master classes. With Raymond, we bought it in 1978. It was not in this condition, it dates from 1685, we worked a lot for years to make it pleasant. At the time, we had already thought about creating spaces to host and hold concerts. The Music in Paradise festival began 20 years ago in the barn on our farm. It’s a house made for sharing. We have led music workshops and we feel completely adopted in this beautiful region. We never tire of the Jura, Raymond is from the Swiss Jura. »

I see a cello, do you play it too?

“It’s my new passion. During Covid-19, all concerts were canceled, so I started studying cello. I joined the orchestra of the University of Geneva as a cellist, for me it was a new challenge. »

Tell us about your pottery.

“I make ceramics using the raku method. The raku technique is a low-temperature pottery firing process of Japanese origin; workshops took place on the farm. »

Can you tell us a little more about your festival?

“This festival was created in 2004, we are celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. Its name Musique au Paradis comes from the name of rue du Paradis, where we live. Some of the concerts take place in the barn and in surrounding churches. It will take place from July 5 to 7. The festival offers an intense and very varied program of six concerts in locations in the Jura. The event aims to celebrate classical and world music. »
