The Massawippi golf club in North Hatley is celebrating its 100th anniversary on Saturday. For the occasion, around twenty golfers dressed in period costumes during a tournament bringing together 70 people.
Club captain Mike Bremner brought together the club’s loyal golfers to celebrate this important anniversary.
Most of them are members who have been with us for a long time
says Mike Bremner.
It’s a historic day for everyone.
Around twenty of the 77 participants in this centenary tournament found a period costume.
Player Carmen Paquette dug deep into her wardrobe to find a costume to celebrate the anniversary of the club she frequents two to three times a week.
I said to myself: it’s time to take out the old long skirts and straw hats
she says.

For the player, this sport is a real therapy. The great outdoors because we’re outside and it gets us out of the house. Those who think that it is not exercise to play golf, come and try it and see. You will see that we still move quite a bit in golf
she emphasizes.
There are now more women in the field
There are many women like Carmen Paquette in the field.
There are more women registered for the Women’s Leagues than in the Men’s Leagues. There is more atmosphere in the room for the ladies on Wednesday evening
specifies Mike Bremner.
Although he agrees that the sport experienced a decline in popularity around the 2010s, he believes that golf is once again experiencing a period of growth thanks to the presence of women, but also younger people.
We’re seeing a lot more young people than we’ve ever seen before and that’s special for the rest of us. It’s positive for the future of golf
underlines Mike Bremner.
Celebrate the three founders of the club
By celebrating the centenary of the Massawippi golf club, Mike Bremner also wanted to pay tribute to the three American founders.
In 1924, the three men wanted to offer a well-maintained course to golfers in the region. Today, there are only four employees maintaining the pitch, but the experience acquired allows them to offer quality conditions to the players.
They always said that we had to have a course open to everyone with adorable prices. 100 years later, you have the same mandate
he proudly emphasizes.
Even today, it allows the citizens of North Hatley to have fun on this little-known nine-hole course on the banks of Lake Massawippi.
