Lot: duty of memory in Oradour-sur-Glane (87)

This year we are celebrating a very sad anniversary, 80 years. 80 years ago, the tragic fate of Oradour-sur-Glane was sealed on June 10, 1944 by the SS division “Das Reich”. Symbol of the brutality of the Nazi occupation. In a few hours, this Limousin town was transformed into an inferno and its occupants massacred “as an example”. 643 people died in this operation which used methods proven on the Eastern Front.

We owe them a duty of memory. For this the Ud46 went with 25 of its members so as not to forget.

This day took place on June 6. After a bus trip, and a reminder of historical facts, the members were able to stroll through the martyred village and reflect there. A picnic was taken together while tasting Basque specialties. The afternoon was spent at the memory center which hosts exhibitions and installations which provide information on the history of the massacre and the importance of the duty to remember.

Nathalie Desforges, secretary of Ud46.
