The former Lotois resistance fighter and entrepreneur, Jacques Hugon, died on June 9. He was 97 years old. The religious ceremony was held on June 13 at the Saint-Barthélemy church followed by the burial in the Cahors-Ville cemetery, where Jacques’ relatives were able to accompany him on his last journey.

Jacques Hugon was a well-known figure in the Lot. Born October 24, 1927, fatherless at 12, he joined the resistance at 16. He participated in the liberation of Cahors and Toulouse. Jacques joined the ranks of the French army by being incorporated into the 2nd Lot Infantry Regiment. During the winter of 1944-1945 within the Carnot brigade, he took part in numerous mine clearance operations then in the final offensive at Pointe de Grave, a terrible war of liberation from September 1944 to April 1945. Since 1998, Jacques was president of the Pointe de Grave veterans.

These facts earned him several medals: the Combatant’s Cross under 20, the Volunteer Combatant’s Cross and the Nation’s Recognition medal. Flag bearer for 6 years, Jacques was also decorated with the flag bearer medal.

Recruited as an ironworker-welder in 1958 by the Escorbiac company, Jacques Hugon took over responsibility for the company at the beginning of the 1960s and continued to develop it to make it a regional and then national flagship in the field of manufacturing sports equipment, performance hall layouts and simple or telescopic stands. In 1998, his son Pierre took over the company and since 2011 it is his grandson Jean, president of the CCI, who manages the company, a company which has developed and which radiates everywhere in mainland France as well as in the departments of ‘overseas. Jacques was proud of this family transmission. The latter is also very involved with young people.

On January 27, 2018, in Mercuès, Jérôme Filipini, then prefect of Lot, presented Jacques with the insignia of Knight of the National Order of Merit. This recognition of the Republic, in the second national order, oh so deserved, crowned a life made of courage, conviction and dedication in the service of France and in the service of others. This medal presentation in front of your wife, your children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren was undoubtedly a memorable day full of strong emotions.
