VIDEO. The mayor of Charleville-Mézières bathes in the Meuse, “clean and without health risk”

To demonstrate that the Meuse, the river which flows through Charleville-Mézières, is “clean and suitable for swimming without health risks”, Mayor Boris Ravignon gave of himself this Saturday, June 15, throwing himself into the water in front of many curious people.

Promise kept for the mayor of Charleville-Mézières. Boris Ravignon bathed in the Meuse, a few dozen meters from the Town Hall, this Saturday June 15 around 5 p.m.

The elected official, who has just left the Les Républicains party for good, had swapped the suit and tie in which we are used to seeing him for simple swimming trunks, all under the eye of many curious people. Despite a cloudy sky and 17 degrees in the air on the thermometer according to Météo France, the mayor did not postpone the meeting he had set.

“It’s true, the news is not so light-hearted. But organizing a swim in the Meuse now is not trivial. It is the culmination of a water policy which comes from far”, explained the elected official a few days ago on his Facebook page.

It indicated that the water quality of the Meuse has improved considerably since the 1990s. The analyzes carried out now show that “the Meuse is clean and suitable for swimming without health risks”.

This Saturday, he invited residents to join him to swim again in the Meuse, a first “after several decades of interruption”. He is thus ahead of the mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, who plans to do the same thing in the Seine, to demonstrate the good quality of the river’s water, while open water swimming events must be organized there during the next Summer Olympics.
