From June 7 to 9, the Fishing Festival took place across Quebec. In Lachute, the meeting was held at Barron Park by the City of Lachute and the Argenteuil Hunting and Fishing Club on June 9, to celebrate this sport in a family way.

The Fishing Festival, a government initiative, aims to promote fishing and introduce the public to this activity. For this reason, no fishing license is required to fish during the three-day event.

In Lachute, the Argenteuil Hunting and Fishing Club partnered with the city of Lachute to hold a morning of family activities at Barron Park.

“We have been coming to Barron Park for activities for six or seven years,” said Mario Baril, president of the Argenteuil Hunting and Fishing Club. This year again, around 800 rainbow and red trout were stocked in the Rivière du Nord. People will be able to continue to come and fish here over the next few weeks and there will still be trout. She won’t run away! You just have to find the right places along the river to get some! »

Despite the passing showers that marked the day, several families came to take part in the activity, to the great satisfaction of the organizers. “People still have fun,” said Mr. Baril. Even if it rains, the pleasure of fishing is not lost. »

While the Argenteuil Hunting and Fishing Club offered bait, the City of Lachute offered fishing rods to young people who wanted to learn this sport. Nicolas Lacasse, manager of events and municipal programming for the city of Lachute, emphasized that even if this municipality is mainly recognized as being mainly urban, the Rivière du Nord which crosses it offers great opportunities for budding fishermen.

“I fished on this river throughout my childhood with my family,” he said. It is a good river for fishing but also for other activities such as kayaking and canoeing. Lachute may not be a resort town like Gore or Wentworth, but we have a beautiful river for activities. »

He too was happy with the public participation in the event even though the clouds were threatening above the site. “We see people who come fully equipped and others who clearly come here to learn, which is the goal of the activity. »

Young Dominic, 8 years old, had traveled from Hawkesbury with his parents to take part in the activity. “I think it’s really good. “It’s the second time in my life that I’ve fished but I still haven’t caught anything yet,” he said. But it’s still ‘fun’. I can’t wait to feel the fish bite on my line. »

For her part, Lachutoise Olivia, 6 years old, was present for a third year in a row at this activity at Barron Park. “I like it when I catch a fish,” she said to explain why she was back. I haven’t taken anything yet today but I’ll keep trying. »

The Argenteuil Hunting and Fishing Club has existed for 43 years and organizes various activities throughout the year, ranging from an ice fishing tournament to a marmot and crow hunting tournament and fishing parties. . For more information, visit the organization’s Facebook page.
