The life of newborns always begins with crying. Those of the little boy born clandestinely a few hours earlier, in the bedroom of a teenage girl, in the Bréquigny district of Rennes, on October 20, 2023, also saved his. They lured a passerby to the garbage container where he had been abandoned, offering her miraculous help. Saved from obscurity, he was hospitalized, then placed with Child Protection.
The “Baby abandoned in a trash can” has now grown a year, under the protection of social services. The legal procedure opened at the time of its discovery has also evolved, as revealed by our colleagues from Le Parisien. At the heart of the case is his mother: a 17-year-old teenager at the time of the events. She admitted to giving birth to the boy, before putting him in a plastic bag. She was indicted for attempted murder and incarcerated in the juvenile section of a women's prison. The father had been identified by the precision of the DNA, then left free.
When she was incarcerated, she found herself threatened. Inside the detention, but also outside.
“She put words”
For the high school student, on the other hand, a long journey began to be able to speak, assures her lawyer, Me Amina Saadaoui. “She wrote down words to say what she had endured. But she had already confided, before that, little by little. It is on the basis of these elements, which highlight a traumatic experience, that I decided, on January 29, 2024, to file a complaint with the public prosecutor.” This complaint, notably for rape, targets the father of the child. The Rennes public prosecutor's office has opened an investigation to carry out the necessary checks.
The lawyer admits: “Obviously, we are going to hear these questions: isn’t there a bit of opportunism in this complaint? » Me Saadaoui contests any defense strategy. Today, “things are emerging” which will clarify history, she pleads. “This is a file that raises a lot of questions. It is symptomatic of the loneliness of these young girls who, faced with pregnancy, ignorance of their own body, the weight of traditions and shame, do not know, hide, lock themselves away. » Originally from Mayotte, the young woman was particularly isolated in Rennes, points out the lawyer.
Placed under judicial supervision, the mother is still indicted for attempted murder. At the end of the investigations he has carried out, the Rennes public prosecutor can decide to initiate proceedings against the father in question, or to dismiss the complaint.
