Legislative: Florence Loury (Les Écologues) and Philippe Veyssière (LFI) left-wing candidates in Yonne

As in 2022, the Ecologist Florence Loury will represent the union of the left in the first constituency of Yonne during the early legislative elections. The mayor of Asquins Philippe Veyssière (LFI) is also once again invested in the second constituency.

After the national agreement between the left-wing parties, under the banner “New Popular Front”, the breakdown of constituencies was ratified. In Yonne, the first was entrusted to the Ecologists, the second to La France insoumise, and the third to the Socialist Party.

As in 2022, Auxerre elected official Florence Loury (Les Écologues) will therefore represent the left-wing forces in the Auxerre-Puisaye constituency. During the last election, she managed to place herself in the lead in the first round (24.25%), ahead of Daniel Grenon (RN, 23.92%). But ultimately failed in the second round by 700 votes against the far-right candidate.

“I’m happy, it’s an opportunity to win. I remain confident,” Florence Loury reacted this Friday, June 14, 2024 after her inauguration. The Auxerre elected official therefore continues the campaigns, since she appeared on Marie Toussaint’s list in the European elections.

To score against the RN, the ecologist is counting on the mobilization of the left electorate “against Macron and his austerity policies and against the far right”. Florence Loury will have as deputy Bruno Cancela-Brault (PCF), deputy mayor of Valravillon (Laduz). The official launch of the campaign is scheduled for Sunday June 16.

“The New Popular Front was done brilliantly”

In the second constituency, Philippe Veyssière is also returning to the campaign. The mayor of Asquins, member of France Insoumise, was already a candidate in 2022 under the banner of Nupes. He was eliminated in the first round, with 21.32% of the votes cast, ahead of Audrey Lopez (RN, 30.72%) and the future winner of the vote André Villiers (Horizons, 29.22%).

At the start of the week, he called for a union of the left. He was granted. “It worked very well, the New Popular Front was done brilliantly and efficiently,” said Philippe Veyssière. “We ended up with a program that looks really good, and which corresponds to everyone’s aspirations.”

For this campaign, Marion Sygroves, veterinarian, was chosen as an alternate. A first campaign meeting is organized this Friday evening, at 6 p.m., at the Maison Ichigo in Voutenay-sur-Cure. “The context is so different from the 2022 legislative elections that it is very difficult to comment,” confides Philippe Veyssière when asked to discuss his ambitions. The electorate should mobilize more, we see this with the influx of proxies. We will see as the campaign progresses how to mobilize people even more.”

In the third constituency, the mayor of Joigny Nicolas Soret (PS) was invested by the “New Popular Front”.
