There City of Lunel was awarded the May 29 and 30in Lyon, byAssociation of Cities for Urban Cleanliness (AVPU) which rewards each year the most active and virtuous cities in terms of urban cleanliness. This is the fourth star in four years for the Hérault town.

It’s a urban cleanliness policy of scale carried out by the City of Lunel since 2020. Indeed, numerous actions have been carried out by the Municipality in order to make Lunel a cleaner city: new street furniture, communication, awareness-raising, verbalization, strengthening of the city cleaning contract, etc. In addition to these actions, the City has also carried out various projects during these four years of cleanliness policy, such as the de-waterproofing and revegetation of schoolyards, the extension and modernization of the wastewater treatment plant. or even the revegetation of the city center. It is thanks to these numerous actions that the City has been able to obtain its stars over the years Eco-clean city label. As a reminder, in order to qualify for this label, each city must present a complete file including its commitments and concrete measures put in place to ensure cleanliness management.

Lunel, head in the stars

From now on, with this new reward, the City of Lunel counts four stars with the Eco-clean City label. She got two in May 2022, as well as a third last year, and finally the fourth this year. For the latter, Lunel was notably rewarded for its pedagogy around its various projects carried out such as, the visits carried out for the inhabitants during the inauguration of the STEP, the involvement of the teaching teams and students during the creation of the projects for the revegetation of schoolyards or the participatory educational component included in this project with workshops to explain this work to schoolchildren. Also, the Hérault town was awarded an award for its participatory policy by involving its inhabitants, particularly schoolchildren: hunting for waste in the canteen, testing and approving future recipes for school restaurants or even a tree to grow well.

It is for all these reasons that the City of Lunel was the winner this year, in the same way as fifty other communities therefore five other cities for this level of labeling. Now eyes are on 2026 and the desire to obtain a fifth star.
