THE archives service of the Coëvrons (in Mayenne) created a map retracing the events that occurred during the Second World War. This operation required significant research work, led by Élisabeth Dupleix, archivist of the 3C.

This is a first in Mayenne carried out in collaboration with the Mayenne geographic information systemTHE departmental archivesterminals Geopolitics And Political Sciences of Raoul-Vadepied high school and the first, Quality Control Laboratory and Services to people and territories of Orion Campus assisted by their teachers, respectively Jackie Pouzin And Martine Toda.

What is the objective ?

This approach was decided on the occasion of the commemorations of the 80th anniversary of the landing of May 8, 1945, and the liberation of Évron and the Coëvrons. Cyril Daydé, director of the departmental archives, insisted, “We will use it to develop this map over the entire department of Mayenne. »

Joël Balandraud, president of the 3C and mayor, assisted byIsabelle Dutertre and Claude Langevin, delegated mayors, welcome the approach.

“Bringing us together today, June 6, 2024, on the very date of the 80th D-Day on the landing beaches, for the opening to the general public of the interactive map and for the transfer of this great initiative to the departmental archives. »

Genesis of the project

The students worked from municipal archives and fund files Francis Robin preserved in the departmental archives.

“This new database is intended to be enriched and completed in the long term, to cover the entire department, under the leadership of the Departmental Archives. The goal is to transmit memory to middle and high school students and support the development of civic awareness. »

But then what do high school students think of this project?

Suzanne, who attends the Orion campus, confides: “It’s interesting. I really enjoyed the research work and the relationships with professors and archives professionals. »

Dilan, from the Raoul-Vadepied high school, explains for his part: “We enjoyed the meetings with Élisabeth Dupleix. We felt useful. In the future, when we see this presentation again, we will be proud of our work. »
